My Speech about 'The Oval Portrait"

The definition of the word obsess is “to occupy or trouble the mind to an excessive degree.”  Many people obsess over things like the husband in “The Oval Portrait.” He obsessed with getting the painting of his wife perfect; sitting there for weeks on end. The wife sat there patiently waiting for him to be done. When he was done with the painting he stepped back and looked at the painting. “This is indeed life itself!” He said looking at the beautiful painting, but when he looked over at his wife she was dead.

Obsessing over something can drive a person crazy, like the husband. He obsessed and work endlessly on the painting just to make it look life-like. I think we obsess over our phones, TV’s, computers, etc. just like the husband and it’s not healthy. We should take an hour or two to spend time with the people we love and care about.

Comparing

There was only a few things I could find different between the short story and the film. For example there wasn’t a bomb in the story but it added a nice twist to the film. Another way they were different is that Hazel was the one who was crying and in the film George was crying. Also, I felt like the story went more into detail than the film.
